Reports of Maruti Suzuki developing a mid-life facelift of the Ciaz sedan have been doing rounds on the Internet from quite some time. The 2018 Maruti Ciaz facelift has even been spotted testing under heavy camouflage in the recent past, pointing towards a nearing launch. Now, after several months of speculation, Maruti Suzuki has officially teased the 2018 Ciaz facelift through a video, pointing towards a nearing launch.
Maruti Suzuki hasn’t revealed any official information about the new Ciaz facelift’s launch timeline and changes as of now. However, increasing spottings of the updated model around Delhi-NCR as well as the recent teaser video have given some indications towards the expected changes. As a result, it is clear that the facelift won’t feature any major sheet metal changes and the overall profile of the car will remain similar to that of the current model.

The Ciaz has been an important product for Maruti Suzuki as it has brought the much-needed success for the automaker in the premium segment. In fact, the existing Maruti Ciaz was the segment leader for a fairly long time, before it was displaced by the recently launched new-gen Hyundai Verna. The Honda City facelift has also added pressure on the sales of the Ciaz, forcing Maruti to revamp the product with fresh updates. Hence, with the Ciaz facelift, the country’s largest automaker is planning to regain its top spot.
The C-segment of sedans is a highly dense marketplace, thanks to the lower sales and higher number of competitors. The Indian automotive industry is clearly showing a soft corner towards crossovers. As a result, any customer who is in the market to buy a new car in the price range of around Rs. 10 lakh will be more willing to buy a crossover like the Creta or the EcoSport, instead of buying a C-segment sedan like the City or the Ciaz. This has limited the number of potential customers in the market. Additionally, this limited set of customers has varied options from a wide range of automakers. The C-segment sedan lineup currently consists of the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. This makes it really important to hold on to the existing share of customers to maintain satisfactory sales.
However, with the recent launch of the new Honda City facelift and the new-gen Verna, the Ciaz is surely losing customers owing to its ageing image. This is why Maruti is planning to launch an updated model of the sedan, to ensure that it holds onto its sales figures and maintains its segment leader position.
Let’s see what all we know yet about the upcoming facelift Maruti Ciaz.
2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift expected launch date
Various speculations and media reports suggest that the 2018 Ciaz facelift will be launched in India in the month of August 2018. Maruti is yet to reveal any official information about the same.
We will update the final launch date here once Maruti Suzuki sends out the official media invites for the Ciaz facelift’s India launch.
New Maruti Ciaz facelift 2018 expected price
The new updated Ciaz won’t get any comprehensive updates in any department. Hence, prices of the 2018 model are expected to remain more or less the same. Since the only way to take on the City is to keep the prices competitive, Maruti is expected to maintain the new Ciaz’s price in the range of Rs. 7.5 lakh to Rs. 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Since the Diesel Ciaz will continue to be offered with Maruti’s SHVS mild-hybrid technology, it is eligible to get some government price benefits, which amount to around Rs. 17,000.
|Base petrol||Rs. 7.50 lakh|
|Top-end diesel||Rs. 10.50 lakh|
Maruti Ciaz facelift 2018 specifications
This is a domain that we are unsure about. The Ciaz is currently available with a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine. While these engines will surely be taken forward onto the Maruti Ciaz facelift, speculations are ripe that Maruti might also plonk the 1.6-litre DDiS 320 power plant from the S-Cross. The Ciaz is widely appreciated as a product, but even those who love the car don’t hesitate to mention that the diesel engine is underpowered, especially in comparison to the competition. As a result, Maruti has decided to remove this limitation with the Ciaz facelift’s launch.
As per our sources, the base and mid-trim models of the new Ciaz diesel will get the existing 1.3-litre engine that generates 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque. However, the top-of-the-line variants are expected to get the S-Cross’ 1.6-litre mill rated at 118 BHP and 320 Nm of torque, while being mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
2018 Maruti Ciaz Facelift design & changes
The Maruti Ciaz facelift is expected to get some minor nip and tucks on the exteriors. However, we don’t expect to see any sheet metal alterations whatsoever. The front will feature a new pair of headlights with the LED daytime running lights (DRLs) located on the lower edge. There is a possibility of all LED headlights on the top-end variants as well. Moreover, the front grille and bumper have been redesigned to offer a fresh look to the sedan’s face.
Similarly, the rear bumper, as well as the taillight cluster, will see some minor changes. The alloy wheel design might also be revised, while the car’s silhoutte will remain unchanged.
