2023 IONIQ 6 by Hyundai Receives Top Safety Pick Rating from IIHS

Hyundai's esteemed 2023 IONIQ 6 electric vehicle has clinched the prestigious TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This recognition underscores the IONIQ 6's adherence to the rigorous IIHS crash-worthiness assessments and its advanced front-crash prevention systems, which are engineered to safeguard pedestrians both during daylight and nighttime conditions. This latest achievement underscores Hyundai's unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety of drivers and pedestrians alike.

Brian Latouf, the global chief safety officer at Hyundai Motor Company, remarked, "At Hyundai, prioritizing customer safety is fundamental to our brand ethos and integral to our operations. We are committed to providing customers with a secure journey. Through our extensive safety engineering and technology integration efforts, we have succeeded in meeting the stringent TSP+ testing criteria established by IIHS. We take immense pride in the 2023 IONIQ 6's attainment of this significant safety accolade, as it further solidifies Hyundai's quest for industry leadership in IIHS awards."

In order to qualify for the TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating in 2023, a vehicle must achieve excellent ratings in various crucial tests, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests. Furthermore, it must feature "Acceptable" or "Good" headlights as standard across all trims, along with a front-crash prevention system that garners "Advanced" or "Superior" ratings in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. For the lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK designation, an "Acceptable" rating in the updated side test suffices, and vehicles must demonstrate "Advanced" or "Superior" performance solely in the daytime pedestrian test.

David Harkey, president of IIHS, expressed enthusiasm over the IONIQ 6's achievement, stating, "It's gratifying to witness Hyundai's latest electric vehicle, the IONIQ 6, attaining the highest level of safety. Ensuring that safety remains a paramount concern in alternatively powered vehicles is imperative if we are to realize the vision of zero traffic.
