April 2019: Mahindra XUV300 beats Tata Nexon in monthly sales

The compact SUV segment is undoubtedly one of the most competitive market places in the Indian automotive industry. It constantly sees new competition coming in, some of which manages to make a big impact on the existing contenders. One such recent case is the Mahindra XUV300. This new compact SUV from Mahindra has managed to pass the Tata Nexon in terms of monthly sales figures for April 2019.

Mahindra sold 4,200 units of the XUV300 in April 2019. Meanwhile, the Tata Nexon suffered a sharp sales decline, selling just 3,976 units in the same month. As a result, the XUV300 managed to surpass the monthly sales of the Nexon for the first time, ever since Mahindra launched it in Feb 2019.

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki continues to be the undisputed leader in the compact SUV segment, thanks to the Vitara Brezza selling 11,785 units in April 2019. Meanwhile, the Ford EcoSport and Honda WRV clocked monthly sales figures of 3,191 and 1,604 units, respectively.

Mahindra is offering the XUV300 with two engine options – a 1.2-litre G80 turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel. It is worth noting that the Mahindra XUV300 isn’t really a direct competitor to the Tata Nexon. Instead, the Nexon is priced at the lower end of the Compact SUV segment, while the XUV300 is pegged at the higher end.
