Bajaj Auto will officially launch the much-awaited Chetak Electric scooter in India on January 14. This will mark Bajaj’s entry into the gearless scooter of the country. Upon launch, the Chetak electric will be sold through KTM dealerships. Initially, the scooter sales is expected to be limited to Pune and Bangalore, with other cities getting the electric scooter in a phased manner.
The Chetak Electric was unveiled in October 2019, with details about its design and specifications already known. As a result, all that is left to be known is the price of the scooter. The company’s MD – Rahul Bajaj had earlier claimed that the Chetak will get a price that is attractive, but not aggressive. Hence, we expect Bajaj to position its upcoming electric scooter as a premium offering. Ex-showroom price of the Chetak electric will hover around the Rs. 1 lakh – 1.15 lakh range.

Powering the Bajaj Chetak is a 4kW electric motor that is mated to an automated gearbox. It draws power from a lithium-ion battery pack. The Chetak gets two ride modes – Economy and Sport. In the former, the electric scooter will deliver a range of around 95 km, while the Sport mode will drop the range to around 85 km.
Bajaj will load the Chetak with various features to justify its relatively premium price tag. This includes feather-touch switch gear, LED headlamps & taillights, a digital instrument cluster, connectivity features, and high-grade construction materials.
Currently, the only rival to the Bajaj Chetak Electric will be the Ather Energy 450.
