2017 BMW 5-Series India price, variants, specs, features, safety and full details

The seventh-generation BMW 5-Series 2017 has been launched in India. The mid-size sedan is available in three variants – Sport Line, Luxury Line and M-Sport. It comes with both petrol and diesel engine options, however, the petrol model can only be brought in the entry-level Sport Line trim. Prices of the 2017 BMW 5-Series start at Rs. 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and go up to Rs. 61.30 lakh.

Frankly, this pricing appears to be spot on for the new 5-Series. The sedan’s biggest rival – the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has already been given a massive USP (unique selling proposition) with the longer wheelbase model. As a result, it was important for BMW India to keep the prices of the new-gen 5-Series competitive, and this is exactly what the German automaker has managed to do. A vital reason behind this pricing strategy is the fact that the new 5-Series is produced locally in India.

The BMW 5-Series 2017 is built on the company’s new Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. This is the same platform that debuted under the new-gen 7-Series last year. With the two cars sharing the platforms, many design elements of the new 5-Series also appear to be inspired from its elder sibling. This helps in giving a family design to BMW’s complete sedan portfolio.

BMW 5-Series G30

The seventh-generation BMW 5-Series brings a completely redefined design, which makes it look like a smaller version of the 7-Series. The new car looks a lot sharper than its relatively curvy predecessor. However, it might look a bit disproportionate, especially when looking from the rear three-quarters. The feature levels loaded with each trim are best in class and easily trump any other car of this segment. We particularly like the remote parking feature that works like a charm. And then there are the engine options, one for each type of customer. If you are tight on budget and want performance, opt for the 2.0 petrol 530i. If fuel economy is something you are concerned about, take the 520d. And if you have deep enough pockets, nothing other than the 530d M-Sport will bring a broader smile on your face.
