Hyundai Motor Company has announced significant updates to its acclaimed IONIQ 5 electric vehicle (EV) lineup, including an enhanced base model and the introduction of the new IONIQ 5 N Line. These additions bring a host of improvements, innovative features, and design enhancements to the dedicated EV range.
The enhanced IONIQ 5 aims to bolster the already impressive competitiveness of the global award-winning EV by upgrading specifications and incorporating new technologies to enhance consumer satisfaction.
Key upgrades to the IONIQ 5 include an increase in battery capacity from 77.4 kWh to 84.0 kWh, resulting in an extended all-electric range. Exterior refinements feature a refined V-shaped garnish, restyled front and rear bumpers emphasizing the SUV's low and wide stance. The length of the IONIQ 5 has increased slightly to 4,655 mm, while other external dimensions remain unchanged.
To enhance the vehicle's dynamic appearance and aerodynamic performance, Hyundai has extended the rear spoiler and introduced new aerodynamic wheels. Inside, usability and convenience have been improved, with the upper part of the center console now featuring a physical button for frequently used functions and the relocation of the smartphone wireless charging pad for enhanced usability.
Additionally, a new steering wheel design with interactive pixel lights has been introduced, along with improvements to the arrangement of infotainment and air conditioning controls for enhanced operational convenience. The vehicle is equipped with a next-generation infotainment system called connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) and supports wireless Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates.
Hyundai has also introduced several new safety and convenience features, including Hands-On Detection (HOD) steering wheel, Lane Keeping Assist 2, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2), and Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-F/S/R).
In response to customer preferences, features such as Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS), Digital Key 2, Built-In Cam 2, and second-row seat remote folding have been incorporated. Measures have also been taken to enhance safety and ride comfort, including a shock absorber to alleviate road vibrations, increased rigidity of the cowl crossbar, and reinforced body parts for improved stability and agility.
Joining the lineup, the IONIQ 5 N Line offers a sporty variant positioned between the upgraded base model and the high-performance IONIQ 5 N. The N Line variant boasts a more aggressive, sporty design with unique bumpers, side skirts, and 20-inch aluminum wheels.
Inside, the cabin features an exclusive N Line design with a dedicated steering wheel, dashboard, metal pedals, black headliner, sport seats with the N logo, red contrast stitching, and two seat covering options, creating a dynamic driving environment.
The enhanced IONIQ 5 and new IONIQ 5 N Line will be available for Korean customers starting March 2024, with plans for a gradual global rollout throughout the year.
