Hyundai has finally entered the competitive compact SUV segment of the Indian car market. This debut has been marked with the launch of the Hyundai Venue in India. This new compact SUV is available with three engine options and is spread across 6 trim levels. Prices of the Hyundai Venue in India start at Rs. 6.50 lakh and go up to Rs. 10.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Hyundai’s plans to launch a compact SUV came to light when it showcased the Carlino concept a few years back. However, the South Korean automaker took its own sweet time before coming with the final production version. The Venue has thus been under development for over 4 years, with Hyundai India claiming to have spent over 100 million dollars for its development.
The Venue is available with two petrol engine options – a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated. Meanwhile, diesel duties are handled by a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder diesel. The 1.2 petrol is mated to a 5-speed manual, while the 1.0 petrol and 1.4 diesel come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Additionally, the 1.0 petrol gets a 7-speed DCT automatic as an option.
