Jaguar India has added a diesel engine to its entry-level sedan – the Jaguar XE. This sedan, which was originally unveiled and launched in India at the 2016 Auto Expo, was previously available only with a petrol engine.
The XE sedan is available in three variants – Pure, Prestige and Portfolio. Both engines, petrol and diesel, can be opted in all these variants. This petrol engine is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit. Output figures are rated at 177 hp @ 4,000 rpm and 430 Nm @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. Meanwhile, the diesel is also a 2.0-litre four cylinder engine. Output figures are rated at 177 hp @ 4,000 rpm and 430 Nm @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. Both – petrol and diesel engines are mated to a 8-speed auto gearbox.
With the new diesel engine, the Jaguar XE diesel in India can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. Its top speed is 228 km/h. Weight of the diesel model is 2,135 kg, which is around 15 kg more than that of the petrol variants. Other dimensions have remained the same.

Jaguar has priced the XE Diesel from Rs. 38.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This makes it cheaper that the Mercedes C-Class and the Audi A4, but costlier than the BMW 3-Series.
