Anand Mahindra, the chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra, has confirmed that the Jawa motorcycles brand will be launched in India in 2018. This revelation was made through a tweet sent out by the business tycoon as a reply to another tweet asking how long Indians will have to wait for the reintroduction of the iconic brand name in the market.
All this started when Anand Mahindra sent out a tweet with a motivational meme that showed a rider on a Yamaha R1 with the quotes – Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass, it’s about learning to ride in the rain. Mr Mahindra also added a caption with the image that said: “We all know about the advice to ‘Dance in the rain..’ But with Jawa’s imminent resurrection you can’t blame me for pushing this avatar of the quote.”

Soon after, a Twitter user, Rakesh, tagged Mr Mahindra in a tweet that read: “Sir, plss confirm still how many years we should wait for the Jawa motorcycles in India”. The chairman retweeted this question with his answer – “Happening this year…”.

It is important to note here that Mahindra had signed an exclusive brand license agreement in 2016 through which the company has the right to produce, market and sell products under the Jawa brand name in Indian and some other Asian markets. It is not yet known whether Mahindra will develop all new products from the scratch to sell under the Jawa brand, or bring in global Jawa motorcycles to the Indian market with a few tweaks.
