Kia Sonet teased in video before official launch

Kia Motors India has teased its upcoming compact SUV, the Kia Sonet, through a short video. The Sonnet will launch in India on August 7 2020. It will be Kia’s contender in the compact SUV space. It is worth noting that the Sonet was unveiled as a production ready concept in the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this year. However, we are yet to see the production ready version of the same.

Kia has constantly claimed that the production-spec model will closely resemble the concept shown earlier. However, there will be a few changes made to make the SUV more production friendly. The Sonet is based on the same platform that underpins the Hyundai Venue.

The teaser video reveals that the rear end of the Kia Sonet will have wrap around taillights that are connected to each other by a thin reflector strip running across the width of the boot lid. In the concept, there was a LED light bar instead of the reflector strip. Other details visible in the video include the Kia logo below the reflector strip, roof rails, a rear-mounted radio antenna, and a roof-mounted spoiler. No specific details about the interiors have yet been revealed. However, expected Kia Sonet to get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a Bose sound system, electronic sunroof and the company’s UVO connected car technology.

In India, the Kia Sonet SUV is expected to be offered with three engine options. These include a 1.2-litre petrol with a manual gearbox, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol with a manual and a DCT automatic gearbox, and a 1.5-litre diesel with a manual and torque converter automatic. Interestingly, the Venue will soon get a clutchless manual gearbox, which we expect to see in the Sonet sometime later in uts lifetime.

The Kia Sonet price in India will range from Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh. It will compete against the likes of the Ford Ecosport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra XUV300.
