Mahindra eKUV100 Electric launched at Rs. 8.25 lakh

Mahindra has launched the eKUV100 in India on the first day of the Auto Expo 2020. It is essentially a electric model of the KUV100 that is already on sale in India, albeit with a few cosmetic updates to different it from the ICE-powered model. The Mahindra eKUV100 price in India has been pegged at Rs. 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it the most affordable Electric car on sale in India.

The eKUV100 Electric is powered by the company’s eFalcon powertrain. This includes a 40 kW motor that draws power from a 15.9 kWh battery pack. The electric micro SUV is rated at 54 PS and 120 Nm.

Mahindra claims that the eKUV100 can cover a distance of 147 km on a single charge. The battery pack can be completely charged using a home charger in 5 hr and 15 mins. However, the micro SUV also comes with DC fast charging, which can juice-up the battery in just 55 mins.

Cosmetically, the eKUV100 is primarily similar to the regular model. However, a few cosmetic elements like the closed front grille and the relocated fuel filler cap on the front fender, will help differentiate the two. It is worth noting that the fuel filler cap now houses the charging port. Meanwhile, the closed front grille helps in aerodynamics, something that is crucial to EVs for their drive range. Hence, the changes are more functional, than just cosmetic.

It is worth noting that the aforementioned price (8.25 lakh) is including FAME II subsidies. Since subsidies provided for EVs by differes from state to states, price of the eKUV100 will also change from each state.
