Mahindra Thar 700 launched in India; End of the current model

Mahindra and Mahindra has announced the launch of the Thar 700 in the Indian market. It has been priced at Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it around Rs. 50,000 more expensive that the regular Thar CRDe 4WD on which it is based.

This special edition model is the final commemorative version of the current-gen model. As a result, after Mahindra sells the 700 units of the Thar 700, the current-gen version of the 4×4 SUV will be discontinued. It is worth noting that Mahindra is already working on a new-gen Thar that is expected to be launched early next year.

Let’s talk about the cosmetic changes made to the Mahindra Thar 700. This limited edition model comes in two colours – the popular Napoli Black and an all-new Aqua Marine. Other changes include new 5-spoke 15-inch alloys, black decals on the bonnet, a silver finish on the front bumper, and a special badge with the signature of the company’s chairman, Mr. Anand Mahindra, on the right fender. On the inside, new leatherette seat covers are the only change made.

Powering the Mahindra Thar 700 edition is a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder CRDe diesel engine that is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The SUV does come with ABS, but lacks airbags, rear parking sensors, and seatbelt pretensioners at the front; something that will get mandatory on all cars manufactured after July 1, 2019.
