Mahindra TUV300 Plus - name confirmed for long wheelbase model

Mahindra and Mahindra has registered the name TUV300 Plus for the long wheelbase version of the TUV. This new iteration will likely be launched around the festive season of this year.

The company has been testing a long wheelbase version of the TUV300. However, no official announcements have been made by the Indian automaker yet. The larger TUV will try to compete in the bigger MPV space and will try to take on against the likes of the Renault Lodgy.

The Mahindra TUV300 Plus will borrow most of its design elements from the smaller version. The front and rear fascias will likely be exact copies of the TUV300, save for a few minor bumper tweaks. However, the biggest difference will be at the sides. The rear tyres will be pushed a lot backwards, thus increasing the wheelbase. As a result, the cabin space on offer with the Mahindra TUV300 Plus will be a lot more than that of the regular model. This increase in cabin space will also help in placing a third row of seats, making it a proper 7-seater.

While the third row will help in making the SUV more useful for carrying around 7 people, the luggage space on offer will be limited. However, this could be manipulated by folding the third (or even) second row of seats, depending on the usage requirements.

In terms of engine options on offer, the 2017 Mahindra TUV300 Plus will likely be powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, mHawk enigne, which will churn out 100 bhp and 240 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be handled by either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.

Mahindra TUV300 Plus expected price

Mahindra hasn’t revealed any official indications regarding the TUV300 Plus’ price. However, in order to pose a significant package in the populated SUV market, Mahindra will likely place the lengthened model in the range of Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
