The Maruti Ignis hatchback crossover monthly sales crossed the 5,000 mark, as the country’s largest car maker managed to sell 5,209 units in the month of March 2017. This marks an increment of around 11%, as compared to the sales in February 2017, when 4,830 units of the Ignis were sold. You can also check out our complete coverage of the sales figures of March 2017 at this link.
As per our sources within the company and across various NEXA dealerships, the drop is a result of many bookings getting cancelled post the price announcement. Various customers who had made pre-bookings before the car’s launch were slightly disappointed with the Ignis’ premium pricing. This resulted in many bookings getting canceled, while a significant chunk of customers even converted their Ignis bookings to the Baleno. Moreover, there is currently a supply shortage of the car. Hence, some high-volume dealerships aren’t able to deliver cars in the stipulated time frame. This also might have caused a drop in sales. Therefore, it will be ideal to wait for a couple of more months before finally commenting on whether or not the Ignis is a success in India.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis was launched at an introductory price of Rs. 4.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It marks the replacement of the Ritz in India. It will be retailed in the country through the Nexa premium dealership chain, and will be the most affordable model available on the Nexa floor.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Interior
The Ignis gets a completely new interior, which is a pleasant change from other Maruti cars we have seen till date. It is the first car from Maruti Suzuki in a very long time that gets a completely new steering wheel. This 3-spoke steering is equipped with multi-functional buttons to control the infotainment system. Talking about the infotainment system, the Ignis comes with a SmartPlay touchscreen system that is docked in the centre to give it a floating look. Available only with the top-end Alpha variant, this system also gets Mirror Link, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Dashboard of the Ignis gets a dual-tone layout, with a black and light beige treatment. The horizontal layout brings a breeze of fresh air. It makes the cabin look a lot wider than it actually is. The automatic climate control too is all-new. It gets a slim LCD screen with multiple control toggle buttons laid out below it.
The seating capacity of the Ignis is 5 passengers. So don’t go by the SUV-ish styling; it is still an average sized hatchback which gets some added crossover-inspired design cues. No 7-seater capabilities or third-row jump seats here.

Summary
The Ignis is a significant departure from Maruti’s ideology of making conventional, mass appeal cars. It gets quirky styling, which can surely polarize opinions. The specifications, colours and customization options making it an enticing car for the youth. Meanwhile, the specification sheet includes the two best engines that are currently on offer in this segment. However, we hope it was priced slightly lower than its current range.
