Maruti Suzuki announces major revamp for True Value used car business

Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will be refurbishing its entire used car business vertical, that operated under the name – True Value. This decision has been made after seeing increasing demand for organized used car sales channels in the country. As a result, the automaker will be bringing in various feature-rich and technological updates to the True Value chain and will try to enhance its market share in the used car segment.

As part of the aforementioned revamping exercise, the company will establish a network of over 150 independent True Value outlets by the end of March 2018. This number will further be increased to 300 in the succeeding couple of years.

It is also worth noting that Maruti is planning to separate its used car business from its new car vertical. Many dealerships had a used car division within the same building or area. However, Maruti is now motivating its existing dealerships to invest around Rs. 60 lakh – Rs. 90 lakh each (depending on the city and region), in order to establish independent True Value outlets.

In order to further enhance the accessibility of its used car division, Maruti Suzuki will be inter-connecting all these True Value outlets through an online portal. This portal will provide details of available used cars in each city to prospective customers. It will thus eliminate the need to visit the outlet to inquire about available used Maruti Suzuki cars.

Maruti Suzuki will also be enhancing the check points for selection of used cars for its True Value outlets. The company claims that each car will be checked for 376 points, including tire wear, alignment, engine working and rusting. Once the car clear these check lists, it will be given a star rating, ranging from 1 to 5, which will give customers an idea about the real condition of the car.

Maruti Suzuki stepped into the organised used car business in 2001 with the start of the True Value vertical. With the updated outlet infrastructure and internet inter-connectivity, the 2017 True Value chain can creat yet another disruption in the Indian used car industry.
