MG Motors will launch its second offering in India, the MG EZS electric SUV, on January 23, 2020. This comes after the manufacturer made its successful debut in the country with the launch of the Hector last year. It is worth noting that the the EZS was previously scheduled to be launched on January 27. However, the manufacturer has now preponed the launch event to the 23rd.
Interestingly, bookings for the MG EZS electric SUV are already underway at MG dealerships across the country. As a result, interested customers can pre-book the SUV even before its official launch by paying a token amount of Rs. 50,000. MG has claimed that over 2,300 bookings have already been received before the price announcement. This proves the acceptance of not just electric vehicles in India, but also of the MG brand name.
The EZS is an all-electric SUV that draws power from a 44.5kWh liquid-cooled battery pack. The electric motors are rated at 143 PS and 353 Nm if peak torque. MG Motors claim that tha the EZS can cover a distance of 340 km on a single charge.
MG India will offer the EZS in two variants – Excite and Exclusive. The SUV will be loaded with features like automatic projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, tyre pressure monitoring system, and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard on both variants. Additionally, the Exclusive trim will get a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, power-adjustable seats, rain sensing wipers and a PM 2.5 air filter. Occupant safety will be taken care of by ABS with EBD, 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, hill start assist, hill descent control, and rear parking camera as standard.
The MG electric SUV will initially be sold in India in just 5 cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. However, the manufacturer might increase the SUV’s reach if there is significant demand. While the exact price for the EZS is not yet known, we expect it to be introduced from Rs. 22 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete against the Hyundai Kona Electric.
