MG Hector SUV launched in India, Here's everything you need to know

MG Motors has begun its journey in the Indian market by launching its first product in the country – the MG Hector SUV. This new model, which was widely regarded as one of the most anticipated launch of the year, has been introduced at an aggressive starting price of Rs. 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

The Hector SUV is available in four trim levels and three engine-gearbox combinations. In total, this new SUV comes with four diesel variants, two petrol-manual variants, two petrol-automatic variants, and three petrol-hybrid variants. The four trim levels on offer are Style, Super, Smart and Sharp.

The Hector is a fairly large vehicle. It measures 4,655 mm in length, 1,835 mm in width, 1,760 mm in height, while having a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. A fuel tank with capacity of 60 litres will ensure that the Hector is a vehicle worth taking to long road trips with minimal fuel breaks.

Under the hood, the MG Hector SUV is available with multiple powertrain options. These include a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol developing 143 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque, while being mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual clutch automatic. MG are also providing an additional 48V battery in the mild-hybrid variants that is capable of putting out 20 Nm of added torque. This mild-hybrid system, which is available only with the petrol-manual combination, not just helps in aiding fuel economy, but also enhances the SUV’s response to throttle inputs.

Meanwhile, diesel duties are handled by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder block that is capable of extracting 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. It comes with ]a 6-speed manual as the only transmission option.

MG is also promising a respectable fuel economy for all variants of the Hector SUV. According to the company’s claims, the petrol-automatic variants can extract a mileage of 13.96 km/l, the petrol-manual can put out 14,16 km/l, while the petrol hybrid can result in a 12 per cent more efficient powertrain, thus extracting 15.81 km/h. Meanwhile, the diesel manual variants are claimed to deliver 17.41 km/l.
