New-gen Honda City spotted testing for the first time, full details inside

Honda has started working on the next-gen model of the City sedan. The updated model has been spotted testing under heavy camouflage on public roads in Thailand. This will mark the introduction of the fifth-gen Honda City, which is expected to be globally unveiled by the end of this year. Meanwhile, an India launch of the new City is expected to happen in the first half of 2020.

As per the spy shots, the new Honda City 2020 appears to be longer than the current model. Despite the heavy camouflage, there are a few design details that are visible on the test mule. The new City is likely to borrow design cues from other recent launches from Honda cars, including the flagship Accord sedan.

As a result, we can see a new set of headlamps that are wider than before and appear to be all LED units. The grille appears to be taller than before and continues to house a thick chrome bar in the middle. At the rear, there are new wraparound taillights and a beefier bumper, while the number plate housing is located on the boot lid.

The new-gen Honda City will likely come with a new set of engines. In India, Honda is expected to continue to offer the same 1.5-litre diesel block that is available in the current version, albeit with a BS-VI compliance. Additionally, Honda is likely to offer a Diesel-CVT combination with the new City, similar what is seen on the Amaze compact sedan. We might also see a petrol mild-hybrid powertrain with the Honda City 2020.
