The new Honda Amaze has been unveiled in India at the 2018 Auto Expo. This marks the global unveiling of the second-generation model of Honda’s first ever compact sedan. Similar to its predecessor, the new Amaze continues to be a sub 4-metre car for excise duty benefits. However, with the second-generation, Honda has updated the Amaze’s package, inside-out, making it a lot more alluring!
The Honda Amaze has always been a proportionate design, especially in comparison to the likes of the VW Ameo and the previous-gen Maruti Dzire. However, with the second-generation, Honda designers have clearly focussed even more on making sure that the car remains as pleasing to the eye as possible, while still being under 4-metre in length to take advantage of the lower excise duty slabs for small cars.
Hence, the new Honda Amaze 2018 continues to be a sub 4-metre car. However, design changes made to the second-gen model have made the car look much larger than before. While there aren’t any major dimensional changes, the new front and rear profiles result in a visual enhancement of the car’s road presence.
On the inside, the car gets an all-new dashboard layout. However, it still retains the dual tone black beige treatment of its predecessor. But the similarities end here! The new Honda Amaze 2018 comes with a completely new interior, including a fresh dashboard, centre console, steering as well as instrument cluster.
Powertrain options for the new-gen Honda Amaze haven’t been announced yet. However, it is highly likely that the carmaker would continue to offer the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines with the 5-speed manual gearbox. Certain media reports also point towards the possibility of a CVT diesel automatic, which will surely be an interesting option to have in a market that doesn’t really have any matured diesel automatic cars.

Honda Amaze 2018 expected India launch
Honda hasn’t announced a launch date for the new Amaze yet. However, the company did say that the India launch can be expected in the second half of this year. Hence, we believe the new Amaze will be launched around the festive season, i.e., Diwali 2018.

While Honda did unveil and showcase the new 2018 Amaze at the Auto Expo, it hasn’t revealed the official prices of the same yet. Variant-wise prices are thus expected to be revealed at the car’s India launch. However, since the compact sedan segment is tightly packed with rivals like the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and VW Ameo, Honda doesn’t really have a large bandwidth to bring in a massive hike for the new Amaze prices. Hence, we expect the updated secong-gen model to continue to retail in the price range of Rs. 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

New Honda Amaze 2018 exteriors and design
The front fascia gets a vertical nose, a hexagonal grille with Honda’s characteristic chrome wing in the centre and a pair of rectangular headlamps. The bonnet gets prominent character lines, while the front bumper too features some sharp design lines. The lateral air dam sits flush in the bumper and is surrounded by large fog lamp housings on either side.
Move to the side and the new Amaze won’t fail to amaze you. Despite being a sub 4-metre car, the second-gen model gets a proportionate silhouette, thanks to a neat integration of the boot. The new 15-inch alloys looks good, though dual-tone units like what we see on the new Dzire would have added more appeal to the car’s character.
At the rear, the new Amaze gets wraparound taillights with light guides. Interestingly, Honda has adopted a twin-section layout for the taillamps, with the part on the bootlid housing reflectors. The number plate is located in the centre, while a chrome bar runs just above it to connect the two taillamps. A prominent bootlid mounted spoiler further accentuates the car’s derriere.
