New Honda City 2020 to launch in India on July 15

Honda Cars India has officially revealed the launch date of the new 2020 Honda City as July 15. The new-gen model will thus be introduced in India on the said day via a digital conference. Production of the new-gen City is already underway at Honda’s manufacturing plants in India. Moreover, authorised Honda dealerships across the country have already started accepting bookings for the new City.

The new-gen City launch in India will mark the introduction of the fifth-gen model of the City moniker. The comprehensively updated 2020 Honda City is based on an all-new platform. This makes it lighter than the predecessor, which is expected to improve performance, handling and fuel efficiency. The Japanese carmaker also claims that the new platform is more rigid, thus offering enhanced safety to the car’s occupants.

Cosmetically, the new Honda City looks sharper than the previous model. It gets a massive chrome grille at the front, flanked on either sides by all LED headlamps. The side profile shows a gradually flowing roofline and new dual-tone alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear end has got larger taillamps and a pinch of chrome inserts. Overall, the new City looks like a smaller version of the Honda Civic that is already on sale in India.

Honda will offer two engine options with the all-new City. These include a new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol putting out 121 PS and 145 Nm of peak torque. Diesel duties will be handled by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder block that is capable of generating 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The petrol will be an all-new engine, while the diesel unit is the same that was available in the previous-gen model.

It is worth noting that the new Honda City will be sold alongside the existing model. This means that the 2020 version will be launched at a premium over the current-gen in order to differentiate between the two. In India, the Honda City competes against the likes of the Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Verna, and Toyota Yaris.
