Maruti Suzuki has launched the new 2019 Wagon R in India at prices ranging from Rs. 4.19 lakh to Rs. 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This launch marks introduction of the 3rd generation model of the popular hatchback in the country.
It is worth noting that the India-spec Wagon R gets a different design as compared to the outlandish looking Japan-spec model. It continues to adorn a tall boy layout, which is one of Wagon R’s key characteristics. The hatch is based on Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform. It measures 3,655 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height. Despite being a small car, the new Maruti Wagon R 2019 offers a boot space 341 litres, which can be further expanded to 710 litres by folding the rear seat bench.
The 2019 Wagon R’s updated design language gives it a fresh character. The front fascia includes large squarish headlamps, a rectangular grille, and a beefy bumper that houses a trapezoidal air dam and circular fog lamps on either side. The hatch comes with blacked out B-pillars and electrically foldable outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs) that house the integrated turn indicators as well. The rear end comes with vertically oriented taillights and a dual tone bumper.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R is available in 3 trim levels – LXi, VXi and ZXi. Features offered with the new model include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This system is available only on the range topping ZXi variant. ABS with EBD, speed alert sensor, driver airbag, front seat belt reminder, and rear parking sensors are standard on all variants of the new Maruti Wagon R 2019.
Maruti Suzuki is offering the 2019 Wagon R with two engine options. The 1.0-litre, three cylinder block has been taken forward without any changes. It is capable of pumping out 67 bhp and 90 Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile, a larger 1.2-litre engine has been introduced, which is rated at 82 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. Both these engines come with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while a 5-speed AMT automatic is available in the VXi and ZXi variants.
