Hence,The Renault Captur has been launched in India. Prices of this new Renault crossover start at Rs. 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 13.88 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Deliveries of the Captur in India have begun from immediate effect through all authorised dealerships across the country.
The Renault Captur is the fourth product in the French carmaker’s Indian portfolio, after the Duster, Kwid and Lodgy. We had earlier reported that Renault has already discontinued the Scala sedan and Pulse hatchback owing to low sales.
The India-spec Renault Captur is based on the M0 platform, which also underpins the Duster. While the Duster was responsible for establishing the first success milestone for Renault in India, it has been showing signs of ageing. Hence, Renault has introduced a slightly more premium and contemporary offering that the Duster – the 2017 Renault Captur.
Engine options on offer with the India-spec Renault Captur include a 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine. Both these engines get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Renault clearly seem to have missed the opportunity to launch the Captur automatic variant in India at the moment. However, the French carmaker is soon expected to add it to the lineup.

Renault Captur design and looks
Renault designers have made sure that the Captur looks a lot more modern, urban and contemporary than the Duster’s boxy profile. Hence, the new crossover gets a more matured and attractive stance. The front fascia is characterised by a y-shaped front grille, swept-back full LED headlamps and a neatly chiselled bumper. The side profile reveals the crossover’s relatively longer length, a sloping roofline, slightly beefed up wheel arches and prominent body cladding. The rear is slightly MUV-like, owing to the relatively bland layout of small taillights on each corner and a large boot area. Renault’s decision to offer the Captur in two-tone colour schemes and provide multiple personalisation options to customers will help in improving the car’s visual appeal.

Renault Captur
The Renault Captur brings a feeling of modernity to Renault’s crossover lineup in India. It gets contemporary design cues, modern interiors, a well-laden feature list and potent engine options. It will thus be interesting to see how Renault prices the Captur in India to avoid competition from the likes of the Mahindra Scorpio, Hyundai Creta as well as the Jeep Compass (on the higher end).
