Renault India has silently discontinued two cars from its Indian lineup. These include the Scala sedan and the Pulse hatchback. Though both cars are still listed on the company’s official website, their respective pages don’t mention any prices.
Renault lists prices of all cars on their respective official web pages. Starting prices of the Kwid, Duster and Lodgy are mentioned just below the colour options banner, on the left side. There is also a button for knowing the ‘New Prices After GST’. Customers can even access the price list by clicking on the ‘Prices’ tab, which is located in the overhead menu. However, all these are missing on the web pages of the Scala and Pulse. Even the home page banners on Renault’s official website don’t mention the presence of the said models, with the company’s brand ambassador – Ranbeer Kapoor, pictured while standing with the other three models – Lodgy, Kwid and Duster.
Additionally, monthly sales graphs reveal that Renault hasn’t dispatched a single unit of the Scala sedan since March this year, while no unit of the Pulse hatchback hasn’t been sold last month – July 2017. We talked to a few dealers in Pune and Delhi, and came to know that they haven’t received any unit of the Scala since March and Pulse since June.
But is they have indeed been discontinued, why has Renault still listed them on its official website. Well, the answer to this question was given to us by one of the dealerships, who still has a couple of units of the Scala and 6 units of the Pulse hatchbacks in stock. Renault is thus trying to provide a long enough window for such dealers to get rid of their unsold stock, before bringing the discontinuation out in the open.
The Pulse and Scala, which are basically badge re-engineered versions of the Nissan Micra and Sunny, have never been volume sellers for the French automaker. As a result, discontinuing these models won’t really make a world of difference to the company’s sales figures. Instead, it will help it to channelise resource in an optimum manner and thus make enough space to accommodate the upcoming crossover – the Renault Kaptur.
