VIDEO: Richard Hammond involved in huge car accident while filming for The Grand Tour

Ex-Top Gear host Richard Hammond has been involved in a horrific car accident. The accident took place in Switzerland where the 47-year-old was shooting for his Amazon Prime show – The Grand Tour. He was driving a £ 2 million electric supercar called Rimac Concept One. Hammond has managed to miraculously escape the accident without any major injuries, though the car burst into flames soon after he got out.

According to an official statement released by the show’s organisers, the accident took place when the presenter was practicing the Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland. He lost control in one of the corners and the electric supercar tumbled down the hill. The car rolled over multiple times, before coming to a stop. Hammond is said to have pulled himself out of the wreckage. Soon after he got out of the car, it burst into flames. No one else was involved in the accident.

Here’s a video of Richard Hammond’s Switzerland accident that has surfaced on the Internet.

Eye witnesses suggest that Richard Hammond was conscious and was able to talk after the accident. He even walked for a small distance, before the paramedics brought out the stretchers. The anchor was then airlifted to a nearby hospital where he has been diagnosed with a fractured left knee.

Hammond’s colleague and chief anchor of The Grand Tour – Jeremy Clarkson, has tweeted after the accident revealing the utter shock he experienced due to the crash. He has claimed it to be the biggest crash he has ever seen and has mentioned that ‘Hammond is mostly OK’.

This isn’t the first time that Richard Hammond has been involved in a massive accident. The British automotive journalist recently fell off his bike ‘multiple times’ while shooting for The Grand Tour in March this year. Hammond had also heavily crashed while shooting for his previous show – Top Gear. That crash, which happened due to a tyre burst at speeds of around 350 km/h, resulted in the Brit going into a coma for a fortnight, and then miraculously showing a speedy recovery.

We hope the Hamster (as he is fondly called by fellow presenters) soon recovers from the Switzerland accident as well.
