Royal Enfield’s new 650 cc motorcycle has finally been unveiled at the EICMA show in Milan. The manufacturer has basically showcased two models based on its new 655 cc, twin-cylinder block – the Continental GT 650 Twin and the Interceptor 650. Though both bikes share the chassis and engine, Royal Enfield has given them different design layouts.
The RE Interceptor has been designed as a retro-styled roadster. In fact, it looks a lot familiar to bikes from the Triumph Bonneville range. And frankly, we aren’t complaining about the design in any way. In isolation, the bike looks pretty neatly designed with minimalistic body extensions.

The front of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 comes with a circular 7-inch headlamp, metal front mudguard, beefy telescopic suspension forks, exposed instrument panel and chrome rear view mirrors. The side profile reveals the bike’s heavy inspiration from the Triumph Bonneville, thanks to the similarly shaped fuel tank, a flat seat and an exposed engine-gearbox coupling. The front and rear wheels get a traditional spoke design with massive disc brakes as well.
But the biggest highlight of the Interceptor 650 is its engine. This new bike is powered by Royal Enfield’s new 648 cc, twin-cylinder engine that develops 47 bhp and 52 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed gearbox. This is the biggest and most powerful engine ever developed by Royal Enfield.
Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 launch date in India
The manufacturer hasn’t officially revealed an India launch date for the new Interceptor 650 yet. However, sources suggest that the bike won’t be coming to India before the end of next year. Hence, we expect Royal Enfield to launch the Interceptor 650 around the festive season of next year. However, it will most likely be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.
