Salman Khan has launched e-cycles under his philanthropic and clothing brand – Being Human. Two variants of the e-cycles have been launched in India, priced at Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 57,000. Deliveries of these Salman Khan cycles have started from immediate effect.
The Being Human e-cycles aren’t regular cycles. These come with an electric battery and a motor. The battery has been embedded inside the frame of the cycle, while the motor is a part of the rear wheel’s hub. This electric powertrain can help the cyclist to ride the bicycle without straining his/her muscles. The electric motor can be used to either assist the rider by easing off the pedal action, or simply ride the bicycle in pure electric mode without the need for the cyclist to pedal.
The Being Human e-cycle has a range of 40 km. This means that the cyclist can ride the bike for up to 40 km on pure electric power, before the battery runs out of charge. Meanwhile, the top speed is limited to 25 km/h. According to the Motor Vehicle Act of India, it is compulsory for vehicles that don’t need registration to limit their top speeds till 25 km/h. Yes – the Salman Khan electric bicycles don’t need any sort of registration or number plate. The rider also doesn’t need to be over the age of 18 or have a driver’s licence in order to ride the bike.
The market for such bikes in India is still very scarce. However, interest in electric vehicles in India is increasing every passing day. In fact, the government of India is also trying to boost the EV market. Moreover, traffic conditions are deteriorating in every major city. As a result, there is a certain section of customers that is looking for an easy to ride, small distance commute.
