Tata 45X - Tata Motors' answer to the Maruti Baleno & Elite i20

Tata Motors unveiled a slew of concepts at the 2018 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. However, the one concept that clearly stood out from all other models showcased was the Tata 45X premium hatchback concept. Based on the company’s new IMPACT 2.0 design language, the 45X concept is a preview of Tata Motors’ contender in the premium hatch segment.

The new Tata 45X hatchback has been designed by the company’s 3 design studios, located in Pune, Italy and UK. Moreover, the overall design has also taken inputs from the Jaguar Land Rover team. Hence, production version of the Tata 45X hatchback is expected to come with a globally-appealing design.

Tata Motors has constantly been on the rise in the Indian passenger car market. The company launched the Tiago hatchback in 2016, which became the first step in the brand transformation process. Multiple launches like the Tigor, Hexa and Nexon later, Tata Motors has managed to become the third largest carmaker in the market. It has also recorded a year-on-year growth of more than 50%.

However, the company clearly doesn’t want to stop yet. This is the reason behind a long lineup of cars that will soon be launched by the automaker in the Indian market. Let’s see what we know so far about the new Tata 45X hatchback:

Tata 45X India launch

Tata Motors hasn’t announced an official launch timeline for the 45X hatchback yet. However, the Baleno and Elite i20 rival is expected to go on sale in India sometime next year. It is worth noting that the production model based on the Tata 45X concept will be one of the first Tata cars to launch in India which will be based on the company’s new AMP platform.

Tata 45X expected price in India

Tata has continuously been claiming that the 45X hatch will be produced to compete with the like of the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. This means it will be placed in the premium hatchback segment. Thus, it will also lock horns with the likes of Honda Jazz and VW Polo. All these models are placed in the price range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.

However, Tata Motors has continuously been pricing its products to undercut its direct rivals. Hence, we expect the new 45X based Tata hatchback to be launched in the range of Rs 5.2 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). By doing so, the company will straight-up project an extremely value-for-money product in front of the customers, which will likely bring in huge sales numbers for the carmaker.
