Tata Altroz turbo petrol price, specifications, variants

Tata Motors will soon introduce a turbocharged petrol engine option for its premium hatchback – the Altroz. This new engine option will be a fresh addition to the Altroz lineup. The Tata Altroz turbo petrol will be launched in India around Diwali 2020.

Launched in January 2020, the Altroz was initially offered with a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre, turbocharged diesel engine. Despite being praised for its design, features, and 5-star safety rating, the Altroz has been criticised for its petrol engine. Experts have pointed out that the Altroz petrol lacks grunt and feels a bit lethargic for spirited drivers.

This is the reason Tata Motors has introduced a turbocharged variant of the Altroz. Here’s what you should know about this new engine option.

Launch date

The Tata Altroz turbo petrol will likely be launched by Diwali this year. However, no official announcement has been made yet for the launch date of Altroz turbo.

We will update this section once there is an official announcement regarding the upcoming launch.

Specifications and engine details

A document has leaked on the internet revealing the official specifications of the Tata Altroz turbo. According to this spec sheet, this new variant will get a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. It will be capable of producing 110 PS @ 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 140 Nm @ 1,500-5,500 rpm. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard. However, we also expect the Altroz turbo to be offered with a DCT automatic gearbox.

Variants

As per sources working with Tata dealerships, the Altroz turbo petrol will be offered in five variants – XT, XT(O), XZ, XZ(O), and XZ+.

It is worth noting that the XT(O) and XZ(O) variants will be new additions to the Altroz variant lineup. Hence, we are not sure what the feature distribution will be for these two variants.

Cosmetic changes

Tata motors won’t be making any big cosmetic changes to the Altroz Turbo. The cosmetic changes will surely be not as pronounced as we have seen in the Tiago and Tigor JTP versions. Instead, the company will try to keep the car’s looks to be as normal as possible to appeal to a large range of audience.

The Tata Altroz turbo has been spotted testing in a new shade of blue. This colour isn’t available for the regular models so can be a turbo-exclusive option. Additionally, the turbocharged Altroz petrol will get smoked headlamps and a black rear fascia with big and bold Altroz lettering.

Expected price list

Trims Altroz NA petrol Altroz turbo petrol Altroz turbo diesel
