Tata Harrier SUV launch date, expected price, specs & features

Tata Motors is working on a premium SUV that is expected to be launched sometime in 2019. The automaker had previewed this upcoming product as the H5X concept during the 2018 Auto Expo. Though the production version will surely get relatively toned down design elements, Mr Pratap Bose – Design Head at Tata Motors, has already indicated that the production-spec model will look very similar to the H5X concept.

According to some recent media reports and industry speculations, the H5X concept is expected to be called the Tata Harrier in its production guise. However, the company hasn’t made an official announcement about the same as of now.

The Tata Harrier will be the first car from the Indian automaker to be based on the OMEGA platform. This particular chassis is a revised version of the one that underpins the Land Rover Freelander. The Harrier SUV is actually being developed with inputs from the engineering teams of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

It is designed based on the company’s latest IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy. It is not yet clear whether the Harrier will be a 5-seater or a 7-seater offering. However, we know for a fact that it will be placed above the Hexa, making it the new flagship offering of Tata Motors. Hence, it is highly likely that the Tata Harrier comes with 7 seats.

Every upcoming Tata car nowadays garners immense interest from prospective customers. And the Harrier is expected to be no different. We have thus accumulated everything we know so far about the Tata Harrier, which is as follows:

Tata Harrier India launch date

The Tata Harrier, which is the expected name of the production-spec H5X concept, is likely to be launched in the first half of 2019. The company hasn’t yet made an official announcement about the Harrier’s launch date though. We will update this section as soon as there is some concrete information.

Tata Harrier expected price in India

It is a well known fact that the Harrier will be introduced in Tata’s portfolio as a flagship offering. It will thus be placed higher than the Hexa SUV. Tata Harrier specifications

Tata hasn’t announced the specifications of the Harrier SUV. However, it is being speculated that the premium SUV will be offered with the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre, four-cylinder MultiJet diesel engine. This is the same powertrain that is found under the hood of the Jeep Compass. This diesel engine of the Tata Harrier is likely to be offered in two states of tune – 150PS & 350Nm, and 170PS and 400Nm of torque. Transmission duties are expected to be handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox and a ZF sourced automatic unit.

Another major point in the Tata Harrier’s specifications sheet will be the all wheel drive (AWD) system that will come with Land Rover’s terrain response system with multi-drive modes. This will likely be available only on the top end trim levels.

Tata Harrier Mileage (expected)

As mentioned above, the Harrier is likely to share its engine with the Jeep Compass. However, it will be slightly heavier than the Compass. As a result, mileage of the Tata Harrier is bound to be lower than that of the Jeep Compass, which currently claims an ARAI fuel economy of 17.1 km/l. Hence, practical mileage figures of the Tata Harrier are likely to revolve around the 15 km/l mark.
