Tata Motors has unveiled the Nexon Electric in India. This becomes the first all-electric compact SUV to be unveiled in the country. The new Nexon EV can now be booked across all Tata dealerships in the country. India launch of the Nexon Electric has been scheduled for sometime in January 2020. Though Tata hasn’t made any comments yet, the electric version of the Nexon SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 15 to 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
With the unveiling of the Nexon Electric, Tata Motors has also revealed the design of the upcoming Nexon Facelift in India. It gets a more upright front end, twin-pod headlamps, LED daytime running lights, dual tone colour scheme, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and new 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The Nexon EV SUV will be offered in three colour options – Signature Teal Blue, Moonlit Silver and Glacier White.
The Nexon Electric in India will be available in three variants – XM, XZ+ and XZ+ LUX. The compact SUV has been loaded to the brim with features. As a result, it gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Other features on offer include rear camera, and electronic sunroof, a rotary drive mode selector, automatic headlamps, and rain sensing wipers. The Nexon Electric has two driving modes on offer – Drive and Sport.
Additionally, occupant safety is taken care of by dual front airbags, hill ascent and descent assist, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. It is worth noting that the current model of the Tata Nexon SUV has received a 5-star crash test rating. In our opinion, there is no reason why the updated model can be poor in safety.
Following the latest trend of connecting cars, the Tata Nexon EV is equipped with 35 app based connectivity features. These include remote commands, driving behaviour analytics, navigation and remote diagnostics, vehicle tracking, locating charging stations and service stations.
The Nexon Electric is based on Tata’s new Ziptron EV Technology. The compact SUV draws power from a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. The rated power and torque outputs are 128 PS and 245 Nm, respectively. Tata claims that the Nexon Electric SUV is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds.
The biggest question for electric cars is their range, and the Nexon doesn’t disappoint in this department. The EV is claimed to have a drive range of 300 km on a single charge. Tata has also equipped it with DC fast charging. As a result, the Nexon Electric can be charged from 0 to 80% in 1 hour. However, a normal AC socket will take around 9 hours to completely charge the electric SUV.
