After several months of wait, the Tata Nexon has finally been launched in India at prices starting from Rs. 5.85 lakh for the petrol variants and Rs. 6.85 lakh for the diesel models (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). On the other hand, the top-end models have been priced at Rs. 8.60 lakh for the petrol models and Rs. 9.45 for the diesel range.
The Nexon will be available with two engine options – a petrol and a diesel. At the moment, there is no option of an automatic transmission as the compact SUV comes only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Both engine options are distributed in 4 trim levels – XE, XM, XT and XT+
The Tata Nexon SUV borrows most of its design elements from the production ready concept that was showcased at the auto expo last year. It is built on the company’s new IMPACT design philosophy and thus includes characteristic design cues like a smiling front grille, pulled back headlamps, a curved roof line and a striking rear end design.

Tata Motors is currently on a roll in the Indian car market. After setting the hatchback segment on fire with its last year’s launch of the Tiago, the automaker attacked the luxury SUV marketplace and launched the Tata Hexa to rival cult brands like the Mahindra XUV 500 and the Toyota Innova Crysta. Then there is the Tigor compact sedan lineup up for launch in the next couple of months and the Tiago AMT that will be introduced by July this year. But there is one marketplace that the automaker is currently not present in – the compact SUV segment. This is where the Tata Nexon will be launched.
The compact SUV segment is currently the hottest marketplace in the country. Various studies and monthly sales figures have revealed that Indian customers are preferring SUVs and crossovers over compact sedans. This has resulted in various new launched in the compact SUV segment. Currently, Maruti rules the market with the Vitara Brezza, while the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 are closely following in the second and third spot respectively. With Hyundai’s upcoming compact SUV still around a year away, it is Tata Motors who is looking promising with the Nexon.
Tata Nexon price in India
The only reason behind the Tiago’s success is its mouth-watering price tag and Tata Motors must acknowledge this fact. As a result, the automaker always knew that it will need to price the Nexon in a competitive range in order to provide a better value for money proposition to customers looking at the Maruti Vitara Brezza or the Ford EcoSport. As a result, the Nexon’s India price has been tagged in a fairly competitive bracket of Rs. 5.85 lakh to Rs. 9.45 lakh. (ex-showroom, Delhi). Here are the variant wise prices:

Tata Nexon Specifications
Specifications of the Nexon compact SUV have been revealed by Tata Motors, according to which, the compact SUV is offered with two engine options: a petrol and a diesel. The petrol Nexon gets a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine which develops an output of around 110 HP of power and a peak torque of 170 Nm. Transmission options on offer with include a 6-speed MT. The diesel will get a 1.5-litre turbo engine churning out 108 BHP and 260 Nm of torque with a 6-speed MT gearbox as standard.

Tata Nexon Mileage expected
Tata Motors has been playing big on the fuel economy of all its cars and the Nexon isn’t any different. The Tata Nexon boasts of a 17 km/l for the petrol model and 21.5 km/l for the diesel variants.

Tata Nexon Exteriors
The Nexon is based on Tata’s new IMPACT design philosophy. As a result, it includes some family trait design cues, including the smiling grille at the front that house the Tata logo. Both sides of this grille are flanked by projector headlamps, while the lower bumper area gets a faux skid plate to add ruggedness to the car’s looks.
The side profile gets a slightly quirky design. The roof curves over to end in a thick C-pillar, which gets a small black insert on the lower edge to give the silhouette a floating roof effect. The spotted model gets 16-inch, 5-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels, roof rails with a silver finish and black plastic moulding on the lower section of door pads.

The rear too looks slightly awkward in these spy shots. The overall width of the car is relatively narrower than other compact SUVs in the market. Moreover, the rear design has a lot of styling elements, which make the car’s tail a bit too busy. The wraparound tail lights are slightly smaller for a car of this size. The rear windscreen has been trimmed to a smaller size to accommodate the body coloured strip that joins the two tail lights on both ends and houses the Tata logo in the centre. The lower bumper area, around the number plate housing is a blacked out unit that sticks out from the car’s body line.
At the moment, we aren’t really impressed by the Nexon’s design language. However, since the spy shots have been taken at a strange angle, we will wait to see the car in flesh before giving a final design verdict.

Multi-drive modes
Like all recent Tata vehicles, the Nexon will also come with multi-drive modes. There will be three different drive modes on offer – Eco, City and Sport. Each mode will have different engine response tuning to deliver the combination of utmost performance and efficiency.
The Tata Nexon will thus become the first compact SUV in the Indian market to come with multi-drive modes. The City mode is tuned to provide maximum torque under lower rpms to aid drivability in traffic. The Eco mode is designated to improve fuel economy of the vehicle. On the other hand, the Sport model will allow the driver to take advantage of each and every BHP and Nm coming out from the engine’s crank shaft.
The driver will be able to select one of these three driving modes on the Tata Nexon through a rotary dial placed on the centre console. This arrangement has already been seen on various models of the Land Rover brand, which is currently owned by Tata Motors.
Floating HD touchscreen infotainment system
The biggest highlight of the Tata Nexon’s interiors is the free standing touchscreen infotainment system mounted on top of the centre console. This 6.2-inch high-definition display will be offering high-definition visuals and will also come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the driver will be able to access the infotainment system through steering mounted controls as well.
The infotainment system in question will be mated to an 8-speaker sound system from Harman Kardon. Having seen similar implementations in the Tiago, Tigor and Hexa, we expect the Nexon to come with high-quality and high-fidelity sound system setup.

Tata Nexon
The Nexon brings an unconventional design to the table. It gets a lot more character lines than other models in this segment. There are also some design elements, like the tailgate mounted contrasting coloured bar, which will surely polarise opinions. The rear end too doesn’t look proportionate from the surfaced images. However, the compact SUV is expected to offer some best-in-class features and interior quality. We will comment on the engines only after driving it comprehensively, after the India launch.
