The Tata Tiago AMT was launched in India earlier this year in a single XZA variant. The XZA trim was based on the top-end XZ variant of the Tiago, with the additional ‘A’ representing the car’s new automatic gearbox. Now, the Indian automaker has launched the Tiago AMT in a lower XTA trim, making it more affordable. The Tata Tiago AMT XTA is priced at Rs. 4.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it cheaper by around Rs. 47,000, as compared to the XZA variant which is priced at Rs. 5. 26 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The AMT variant has finally demolish the only USP that the Celerio had over the Tiago. As a result, it is expected to bring in more customers into the Tata family, which is essential for the automaker as it plans to become the third largest player in the Indian passenger vehicle market by 2020.
The Tiago AMT is currently offered only with the petrol engine option. However, we do expect Tata to offer a diesel variant as well in the near future. The Tiago AMT diesel might be launched after the introduction of the Tigor compact sedan.
Presence of the new AMT gearbox will make the Tiago an ideal car for city commuters who don’t want to fiddle around gears of a mechanical car while driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Moreover, the AMT technology is not only less expensive that convention CVT gearboxes, it is also a lot more efficient. In fact, AMT models deliver the same mileage as that of their MT counterparts.
Let’s see what the Tiago AMT has on offer:
Tata Tiago AMT Variants
The Tiago AMT was initially launched only with a single variant – XZA. This variant borrows all features of the regular XZ trim, including rear parking sensors, Harmon Kardonn music system, steering mounted audio controls, fog lamps, dual airbags and ABS with EBD.
However, Tata has now also introduced the XTA variant, based on the XT trim. This variant misses out on the alloy wheels, 4 tweeters, speed dependent volume control, cooled glove box, ORVMs with turn indicators, front fog lamps, ABS, EBD, dual airbags, rear wash & wipe and rear defogger.
Tata Tiago Automatic price in India
The Tiago is known for its value for money package. A major reason behind the car’s popularity is the fact that it offers a lot more features at a lot lesser price. And Tata knew that in order to ensure the success of the AMT models, it needs to be priced sensibly. This is exactly what the automaker has done. The Tiago AMT comes loaded with all necessary features and is available at very reasonable prices, especially for the XZA variant

Tata Tiago AMT Specifications
The Tiago is currently available with two engine options: a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.05-litre diesel. Both these engines are currently offered with only a 5-speed manual transmission. Currently, Tata has launched the AMT gearbox only with the petrol engine, while a diesel AMT variant is expected to be introduced later this year.
Engine | 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol |
Power | 83.8 bhp @ 6,000 rpm |
Torque | 114 Nm @ 3,500 rpm |
Gearbox | 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) |
Tata Tiago AMT interiors and gear lever
The Tiago AMT will borrow its interior design from the manual variants. However, it will get a new, smaller and chubbier AMT gear lever. This lever will be similar to what we have seen with the Zest AMT. It will come with 4 modes – Forward, Reverse, Neutral and Manual. The presence of manual model thus allows the driver to shift gears as per his/her discretion. This comes in handy when overtaking on the highways or attacking small traffic gaps in city traffic. Additionally, the Tiago AMT has also been given the creep feature which makes the car crawl forward if the pressure on the brake pedal is released. This goes a long way in enhancing the city driving experience of the car.
