The Tata Tiago has become the most successful hatchback from Tata Motors in the Indian market. The company has recently announced the roll-out of the 1,00,000th unit of the Tiago from its manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. This milestone comes in just around 19 months after the launch of the Tiago in India.
The Tiago has been attracting customers to Tata dealerships ever since its launch in the country. According to officially revealed sales data, Tata Motors had sold 93,299 units of the Tiago by the end of September 2017. Interestingly, 83% of these sales came from the petrol Tiago. This depicts a major transition of customer preferences from diesel to petrol hatchbacks.

The Tiago was the first product to adorn Tata’s new IMPACT design philosophy. As a result, it was the most important car to come out of the Indian carmaker’s factories. Tata didn’t want to leave any loophole with the Tiago, as it was meant to be the flag bearer for the company’s changing image. And with over 1 lakh bookings under its name, the Tiago has surely lived up to the expectations of the folks at Tata Motors.

Tata Tiago Exteriors
The Tiago is built on a completely new design language called IMPACT. A key guideline during development of the Tiago was to keep it different. Tata designers were specifically mentioned that no element of the new car should remind customers of the old Indica. And seeing the final result, the designers seem to have done a pretty good job.
The front of the Tiago gets a smiling grille, that gets a piano black finish and the Tata logo in the centre. The new headlamps looks smart and have been designed to please all and offend none. The side gets a completely new silhouette, which looks no way similar to the egg-like shape of the Indica or the Bolt. The rear gets sharp wraparound taillights and a smart looking derriere.
Tata Tiago Interiors
On the inside, the Tiago gets a dual tone black and grey layout. Though there are hard plastics used throughout the cabin, the overall quality of materials used is segment leading. The lighter grey shade provides aeriness. Moreover, designers have managed to extract as much space on the inside as possible. As a result, travelling five people isn’t an issue.
The AC vents gets piano black surrounds that can be customized to match with the body colours on the orange and red variants. The music system looks and feels good and operating it is fairly easy. The steering is good to hold, is aptly sized and features steering mounted audio controls as well. The instrument cluster too has been intelligently designed, with two pods for the speedometer and tachometer, and a digital MID in the centre.

Tata Tiago Review
The Tata Tiago is overall a great value for money car. The exterior and interior design is nice to look and it won’t be unfair to suggest that it is currently the best looking car at this price point. The Harman Kardon music system is stupendous and can easily put to cars from a segment higher to shame. However, there are a few issues with the car. The engines feel a bit underpowered and aren’t that refined either, especially the petrol. Tata’s after sales service is always a risk and safety features like dual airbags and ABS are available only on the top-end XZ variant.
