Tata Motors has introduced the Tigor compact sedan in India. Prices of the Tigor start at Rs. 4.65 lakh for the petrol models and Rs. 5.50 lakh for the diesel variants. This translates to a premium of over Rs 1 lakh, as compared to its hatchback sibling – the Tiago. Interested customers can book the car at any Tata authorized dealership across the country. Currently, no waiting period related announcement has been made.
For those of you who aren’t aware of what the Tigor is, it is basically a sedan sibling of the Tiago hatchback. Tata calls its a Styleback, which is a conjunction of ‘Stylish Notchback’. The compact sedan borrows its engine options from the Tiago hatchback. The Tigor is thus offered with the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.05-litre diesel engine, both mated to a 5-speed MT gearbox.
In terms of dimensions, the Tigor is 246 mm longer, 30 mm wider and 2 mm taller than the Tiago. In order to offer more space to occupants, Tata engineers have also managed to increase the Tigor’s wheelbase by 50 mm.
The Tata Tigor was initially launched in four variants – XE. XT, XZ and XZ (O). However, Tata has now also introduced the middle-level XM trim in both petrol and diesel engine lineup to further expand the portfolio.
The Tigor sedan is basically a Tiago with an additional boot slapped on. It gets a compact sedan and notchback type of body structure, something that Tata Motors has named ‘Styleback’ – a Stylish Notchback. The similar names (Tiago – Tigor) will help Tata to benefit from the popularity that the Tiago hatchback has managed to garner.

In terms of design, the Tigor sedan is expected to be approximately similar to the Kite5 concept that was showcased at last year’s auto expo. It will thus get a Tiago-like front fascia, blacked out headlamps with projectors and slightly tweaked front bumpers. The side profile is characterised by a sloping roof line that integrates seamlessly on the boot lid at the back, giving the car a notchback look. The rear gets a neatly integrated boot which features wraparound taillights, a chrome bar in the centre, and a long LED high mount stop lamp embedded in the roof-mounted spoiler.

Tata Tigor
The Tigor is a nicely designed compact sedan with a rather proportionate styling. The exterior design is nicely fabricated, and the interiors are also laid out nicely. Features on offer are satisfactory, as Tata could have done better in the infotainment system department. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is missing and the touchscreen unit is available only on the top-end. Additionally, we would have appreciated standard safety features like airbags and ABS across the range.
