We had earlier reported that Maruti and Toyota have entered a partnership that will see the latter launch a rebadged version of the Baleno premium hatchback. Now it has been revealed that the Toyota Glanza will be the official name of the Baleno counterpart. A teaser video of the Toyota Glanza has also surfaced, pointing towards a nearing launch.
Toyota won’t be making any major changes to the Glanza, which will thus be similar to the Baleno in most aspects. However, we expect to see a revised front end, new bumpers, and some minor changes on the inside.
The released teaser video shows the rear right fender of the article. We thus know for certain that the Glanza and Baleno will have fairly identical rear profiles. The alloy wheels too are similar to what we have seen on the top-end variants of the Baleno.
Some media sources have revealed that the Toyota Glanza will be sold in just two variants. Both these trim levels are likely to draw power from a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. This powerhouse will be mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic in the top-end trim.
As a result, we expect the Toyota Glanza to be launched at a slightly higher starting price, as compared to the Maruti Baleno. Since the Baleno is available in more variants and with more powertrain options, it is easier for the manufacturer to offer an entry-level variant at a very aggressive price point. Hence, the Baleno is likely to continue to receive monthly sales of around 10,000 units, despite tough competition from its twin, the Toyota Glanza.
Meanwhile, a major selling point for the Toyota Glanza would be the company’s trustworthy brand image that screams reliability. To enhance this image further, Toyota is expected to offer various extended warranty plans with the Glanza hatchback. This includes the five-year True Warranty package as well as the seven-year Toyota Timeless warranty package.
It is important to note that the Toyota Glanza is the first of many Maruti Suzuki models that will be rebadged and sold under the Toyota umbrella in India as well as some other international markets. Hence, we expect to see more models like the Ciaz, Ertiga, and Vitara Brezza to be rebadged and sold through Toyota dealerships.
