Toyota Raize Compact SUV leaked ahead of global unveil

Reports of Toyota working on a compact SUV have been doing rounds on the Internet for quite some time now. However, the manufactutrr has remained tight-lipped about any prospective launch. Now, ahead of its official launch, the Toyota Raize compact SUV has been leaked online in all its glory.

The Raize is Toyota’s attempt at taking away some market share from the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV300, and Hyundai Venue. The Raize SUV shares its chassis, body panels, interiors and powertrain with the Daihatsu Rocky that was recently unveiled.

However, there are significant cosmetic changes made in order to differentiate the Toyota Raize from its Daihatsu sibling. The Toyota compact SUV comes with a large trapezodial grille, angular fog lamp housings, and boxy headlamps. Top-end variants might as well come with all LED headlamps. Meanwhile, LED daytime running lights (DRLs) are expected to be offered as standard on all variants.

On the inside, the Toyota Raize compact SUV will come with an all black dashboard with faux brushed aluminium inserts. It includes a 3-spoke steering wheels, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and automatic climate control.

If launched in India, the Toyota Raize will have a sub 4-metre length in order to take advantage of the lower excise duty slabs for smaller vehicles. The Daihatsu Rocky is 3,995 mm in length, 1,695 mm in height, 1,620 mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,525 mm. We thus expect the Raize to come with similar dimensions.

Internationally, the Toyota Raize will come with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, 12-valve turbo-petrol engine that is capable of putting out 100 PS and 140 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
