6 New Upcoming Hyundai Cars in India in 2018

Hyundai has been a major player in the Indian market ever since its introduction. It firstly found its place with successful products like the Santro and Accent, and later managed to establish a following for its high-quality new vehicles like the Grand i10, elite i20 and Verna. The company has been the second largest automaker in India for a long time. But since the Indian car market is extremely competitive, Hyundai wants to continuously launch new products in order to maintain a fresh portfolio.

Hene, there are multiple new upcoming cars from Hyundai in India that are expected to be launched in 2018. We took a look at each of these new cars in order to frame a comprehensive list of 10 new upcoming Hyundai cars in India for 2018.

    The Elite i20 has been an extremely successful product for Hyundai in India. The premium hatchback continuously led its segment from its launch in 2014. However, Maruti’s new Baleno has outpaced the stylish Hyundai hatch and is continuously taking away customers. Hence, Hyundai India has decided to bring a mid-life facelift of the Elite i20 in order to spruce up the overall package. The new model will get minor cosmetic changes at the front and rear and a few feature additions inside the cabin. It is mechanically expected to remain unchanged. It will thus come with a 1.2-litre petrol manual, a 1.4-litre petrol automatic and a 1.4-litre diesel manual powertrain.

    Hyundai is likely to unveil the new facelifted Elite i20 at the Auto Expo in February, while a launch announcement will be made soon after. The car is expected to get a minor price hike post the mentioned changes.

    The Creta crossover has been Hyundai’s biggest ever success in the above 10 lakh rupee price range. Everyone knows that Hyundai India makes a hell lot of money by selling the Creta in India. While the crossover is still not showing any signs of ageing, Hyundai India has decided it would be better to bring a mid-life facelift before the sales start falling. Hene, the 2018 Hyundai Creta facelift is expected to be launched around mid 2018. It will come with a new front fascia with the company’s latest cascading grille design, a new set of headlamps and taillights and new front & rear bumpers. The infotainment system is expected to be upgraded with a bigger touchscreen unit, while the top-end models will also get new alloy wheels.

    Engine options are expected to remain unchanged. Thus, the new Creta will be powered by either a 1.6-litre petrol, a 1.4-litre diesel or a 1.6-litre diesel engine.

    Hyundai has reportedly been working on a new mid-level hatchback that is expected to be unveiled in India sometime in 2018. Rumours suggest that the company might revive the Santro name with this new car. The Santro was discontinued in 2012 but still enjoys a trustworthy brand image. Hence, the company is looking forward to taking advantage of the popularity of the Santro brand and giving competition to mid-level hatchbacks like the Maruti WagonR and Renault Kwid.
    Not much is known yet about the new-gen Santro. But it is likely to be powered by a 798 cc petrol engine. Reports also suggest that Hyundai wants to make the new Santro the most feature-rich model in its price range.

    The SantaFe was Hyundai’s costliest product in the Indian market. However, the company silently discontinued the SUV due to poor sales in October 2017. Now, media reports suggest that the Korean manufacturer is planning to launch a mid-life facelift of the SantaFe in India. This launch is expected to be scheduled around the festive season of 2018.
    The new Hyundai SantaFe 2018 will get a sharper styling, new features and a slightly retuned engine. Despite all these changes, Hyundai is likely to keep the new model’s prices similar to the outgoing version.

    The Eon is currently the oldest product in Hyundai India’s portfolio that hasn’t received a major update. It was launched in 2011 and is still on sale in more or less the same guise. Hence, Hyundai has decided to bring the hatchback upto the current market standards by bringing a cosmetic update.
    The bigges expected change will be on the feature list, as Hyundai is likely to add a basic touchscreen infotainment system in the Eon facelift. The 2018 model will also come with a heavily redesigned front end with a few tweaks made on the rear bumper and taillights as well.

    Media reports suggest that Hyundai will be bringing its latest compact SUV – the 2018 Kona, to the Indian market. However, the most attractive part of these speculations is the fact that the India-spec Kona is expected to be an all-electric vehicle. If the rumours turn out to be true, the Kona electric will be the first all-electric Hyundai car in India.

    Officials specs about the Hyundai Kona electric haven’t surfaced yet. However, it is expected to offer a drive range of over 150 km/h. The electric SUV will also boast of satisfactory performance figures and a top speed of around 180 km/h. Hyundai will most likely price the Kona around the Rs 20 lakh mark.
