The Mahindra KUV100 Electric has been spotted testing in India. Though rumours about the KUV100 getting an electric powertrain have been prevalent in the industry for quite some time, this is the first spy shot of the electric compact SUV. It thus certifies the fact that the company is nearing the last phases of the production cycle for the KUV100. Hence, the Mahindra KUV100 electric is expected to launch in India sometime in 2018.
Aesthetically, the spotted model is more or less similar to the 2017 KUV100 NXT facelift. However, it doesn’t get any exhaust pipe at the rear. Moreover, the spotter has claimed that the vehicle didn’t produce any sound while moving. All these indications point towards an electric powertrain working under the spotted vehicle.
Mahindra Electric has already revealed that it will launch 2 new products for the passenger vehicle market till 2019. However, there is no official word yet regarding what these 2 new models will be. On the other hand, our sources inside the company are constantly pointing towards the development of a KUV100 electric, which will be launched in 2018.
Mahindra is betting big on the electric car industry in India. It is currently the only manufacturer with a line of all-electric vehicles in the country. While sales till now haven’t been motivating, the company believes that India is standing at the edge of an electric mobility revolution. Hence, Mahindra has announced that it will be investing Rs 4,000 crores in its electric car division, over the next 3-5 years.
