Maruti Suzuki Ignis Sigma features, images and design review

The Ignis was launched in India in January this year and has been an important product for the Indian automaker. The Maruti Ignis currently comes in four variants: Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. We have been receiving a lot of messages from fellow enthusiasts about doing an in-depth story on the most affordable, entry-level variant of the Ignis. And with the intention to fulfil every request of our readers, we are here with a design review of the Maruti Ignis Sigma.

Maruti Ignis Sigma – Exteriors

Being an entry-level model, the Sigma doesn’t get any high-end design elements. As a result, the front features a basic pair of halogen headlamps, no fog lamps and an absence of chrome detailing on the grille. Other design elements visible include body coloured A and B pillars, instead of the blacked out ones on the higher models. The Ignis Sigma also lacks alloys wheels or wheel caps as the stock steel rims are visible in the attached image. There are no changes on the rear, as the entry-level model also features a retro profiled tailgate and a black insert on the rear bumper.

All in all, the Ignis Sigma looks like it has been built to a price. We don’t recommend readers to opt for the Ignis variant as it just doesn’t have the character of a youthful car, something that is the USP of the Ignis. However, if you do go ahead with the purchase, a nice set of 15-inch alloys are a must, in order to enhance the car’s stance by a mile.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Sigma – Interiors

Sigma is the only Ignis variant that comes with an all-black dashboard. Personally, we love all black cabins, especially in our muddy and dusty environments. Maintaining the dual tone (black and off-white) interiors of the higher variants of the Ignis can be a task of its own. The lighter panels get dirty very often and thus spoil the overall ambience of the car. But while we love the all-black dashboard, there are certain things that stick out like a sore thumb.

We won’t talk about the awkward AC controls, as we had mentioned them in our Design review of the Maruti Ignis Zeta. But some of the things that we don’t like about the Ignis Sigma variant’s cabin include the plastic quality of the steering wheel spokes. The higher variants get integrated buttons for the infotainment system on the left and right spokes. However, the Sigma variants get a plastic covering this area. This plastic is obnoxiously poor quality. Other than that, everything looks of good quality, including the switchgear, glove box lid and quality of dashboard plastics.

One thing that might be advantageous to those who buy the Ignis is the flexibility with which they can opt for an infotainment system that looks great on the centre console. We have seen that the 2-DIN system of the Zeta models disappoint in the looks department. However, since the Ignis Sigma features list is devoid of a music system, customers can opt for any head unit as per their requirement.
