New Maruti S-Cross 2017 facelift price in India, mileage, design changes

The Maruti S-Cross 2017 facelift has been launched in India at prices starting from Rs. 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Meanwhile, the top-end variant has been pegged at Rs. 11.29 lakh. This new model is a mid-life update to the crossover that now comes with some major changes on the outside and a mildly tweaked specification sheet. The 2017 S-Cross will continue to be sold only through Maruti’s premium NEXA dealership chain.

The S-Cross was first launched in India in the year 2015. It also marked the introduction of Maruti’s new premium dealership chain – Nexa. However, the S-Cross didn’t manage to bring in significant sales for the carmaker right away. There were many reasons behind the crossover’s failure in the Indian market. But, the most important factor that negatively affected the S-Cross sales in India was its price. As a result, Maruti soon realised that the launch prices were a bit too high to pose a potent threat to its rivals. Hence, prices were reduced in the range of Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 1.9 lakh.

The said price drop helped the S-Cross to regain some sales figures. As a result, Maruti currently sells around 2,000 units of the crossover every month.

However, since the model was already two years old, Maruti decided to bring in a mid-life update. The 2017 S-Cross facelift will likely help the carmaker to freshen the overall package and thus boost the crossover’s sales figures even further.

New Maruti S-Cross 2017 facelift Specifications

The 2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift gets some serious specification related changes. The biggest alteration in this department is the omission of the 1.6-litre diesel engine. This particular powerplant had received some amazing reviews from automotive journalists and enthusiasts. However, the company didn’t receive any serious demand for the DDiS 320 models.

Hence, the 2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift is now offered only with the 1.3-litre, four-cylinder DDiS diesel engine, rated at 89 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. However, is engine also gets Maruti’s SHVS mild-hybrid technology, similar to what was till now offered with the Maruti Ciaz.

The newly added SHVS mild-hybrid system to the 2017 S-Cross includes an automatic start-stop system, brake energy regeneration, and an Integrated Starter Generator Motor which offers a mild torque assist to the engine during acceleration. All this helps in boosting the car’s fuel economy figures.

As a result, the 2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift is capable of delivering a fuel economy of 25.1 km/l. This marks a major increase from the earlier model’s company claimed mileage figure of 23.65 km/l.

The 2017 Maruti S-Cross gets a contemporary design profile, thanks to the new front fascia. This makes it look more modern than the slightly old looking appeal of the previous model. The interiors don’t get any major changes and will continue to be offered in an all black scheme. The S-Cross facelift 2017 is loaded with features like projector headlamps, DRLs, reverse camera and Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
