New Renault Kwid 2019 facelift to launch in India next month, full details

Renault India is working on a mid-life facelift of its Kwid hatchback. This 2019 update will be launched in India next month, i.e., September 2019.

The facelifted Kwid 2019 has been spotted testing quite a few times. However, Renault designers have used heavy camouflage on the new Kwid’s test mules, which has successfully disguised the final design of the updated hatchback. As a result, not much is known about how the end product will look like. However, some media reports suggest that the new Renault Kwid 2019 facelift will mostly resemble the Kwid KZE electric car that was showcased at the Shanghai motor show earlier this year.

We thus expect the 2019 Renault Kwid to come with a split headlamp setup. As a result, the LED daytime running lights (DRLs) are located next to the front grille, while the main headlamp cluster is located on the lower part of the bumper. The front and rear bumpers will be all-new and will get more beefier designs that will help boost the car’s road presence. The rear end will also feature new taillights with LED inserts.

In addition to all aforementioned cosmetic changes, the Kwid will also get some structural updates. This will help the hatchback to be compliant with the upcoming safety regulations that are expected to be implemented from October 2019.

On the inside, the new Kwid is expected to get a few tweaks to the dashboard design, in addition to a new steering wheel and instrument cluster, similar to what is available inside the Renault Triber MPV. Also on offer will be a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

No engine-related changes are expected to be made on the Kwid facelift. It will thus continue to be offered with a 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engines. While a 5-speed manual gearbox is standard on both engines, the latter also gets a 5-speed AMT automatic as an option.

Once launched, the new 2019 Renault Kwid facelift will compete head-on against the Maruti S-Presso, which is launching on September 30, 2019.
