Tata Tigor electric priced for private buyers at Rs. 12.59 lakh

Tata Motors has launched the Tigor electric vehicle for private buyers. It is worth noting that the Tigor EV has been on sale for commercial buyers for quite some time. In fact, Tata had even delivered a few models of the electric compact sedan to Government of India. However, this is the first time that Tata Motors has launched an electric vehicle for the private consumer.

The Tata Tigor electric has also been updated with a bigger battery pack of 21.5 kWh, instead of the 16.2 kWh pack found on the earlier model. As a result, the Tigor electric offers a drive range of 213 km (ARAI certified) on a single charge. In comparison, the smaller battery pack used to offer a range of 142 km. The battery pack is connected to a 72V AC induction motor that delivers 41 PS and 105 Nm of peak torque. The new version also gets two driving modes – Drive and Sport.

The Tigor electric is available in three variants – XE+, XM+ and XT+. The top-spec trim is loaded with a 2-DIN infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in support. Also on offer are 14-inch alloy wheels, height adjustable driver’s seat, a shark-fin antenna and LED tail lamps.  Occupant safety is taken care of by dual airbags and ABS. However, the base XE+ model only gets a single driver side airbag.

Tata designers have made some changes to the looks of the Tigor electric to differentiate it from the regular model. Hence, it gets EV badge on the front grille as well as a few EV decals on the side.

At the moment, the Tata Tigor electric car is available in 30 cities. However, Tata will soon expand the car’s reach. There is a 3-year / 1.25 lakh km standard warranty on offer. The Tigor EV can be opted in three colours – Pearlescent white, Egyptian blue and Roman silver.

The Tata Tigor electric vehicle has just a single competitor in the Indian market at the moment – the Mahindra e-Verito.
