Ford Figo Sports images, price, specifications, changes, features & full details

The recently launched Ford Figo Sports is attracting quite a bit of attention. There are many reasons behind this new special edition’s popularity. However, the biggest one is the fact that Ford has made some noteworthy changes on the outside as well as under the sheet metal, which have made the Figo Sport a very enticing package.

The 2017 Ford Figo Sports edition was launched in April at a price of Rs. 6,31,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol model, while the Figo diesel Sports edition costs Rs. 7,21,600. The car gets some cosmetic updates that make it look more aggressive and sporty. Additionally, it also sees some subtle tweaks to the interiors that need a keen eye to notice and a retuned suspension setup.

The new Figo has been a brave attempt on Ford’s part, which didn’t materialise as perfectly as the automaker had hoped. While the older Figo had acted as the saviour of Ford in its tough times in India, the new version didn’t manage to spark the same success story. However, we have always loved the Figo. It is one of the best value for money hatchbacks currently available in the market.

With the Sports variant, Ford appears to be trying to target those who like to add aggressiveness to their car’s looks. As a result, the Figo Sports comes with some additional cosmetic tweaks that help it to look more stylish and contemporary.

Ford Figo Sports price in India

Ford has launched the Figo Sports edition models at a premium of Rs. 50,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This price hike looks appropriate, as the new 15-inch blacked out alloy wheels will themselves cost around Rs. 40,000 in the market. And knowing the Figo’s calibre as a product, we are pretty sure that Sports edition will be able to stay true its name.

Ex-showroom, Delhi prices of the Ford Figo Sports edition are as follows:

Diesel (1.5 Titanium)

Ford Figo Sports Edition

Ford Figo Sports – Exterior Changes

The Figo Sports carries forward all the features that are offered with the regular model’s Titanium variant. In addition to normal exterior design elements, the Sport model also comes with the following additions on the exteriors:

  • Larger 15-inch black Alloy Wheels
  • Dual tone roof and outside rear view mirrors (white for darker colours, black for lighter colours)
  • Roof-mounted rear spoiler
  • Body moulding on the rear bumper and lower door panels with an ‘S’ badge

Ford Figo Sports – Interior Changes

Not much has been changed on the inside of the Figo Sports edition. The dashboard layout is identical to that of the regular model, while the features will be borrowed from the current Figo Titanium variant. However, the steering wheel is now wrapped in leather, and has been stitched using a contrasting red colour. Similar leather inserts and contrasting stitching details have been made around around the gear lever as well.

Additionally, the bezel around the infotainment system, which is finished in a matte silver shade on the regular models, now comes with a gloss black treatment, similar to what is seen on the new Aspire. While we would have loved the addition of a touchscreen infotainment system, Ford appears to have given it a miss as the Figo Sport continues to be offered with the same 2DIN unit.

Ford Figo Sports – Specifications

The Figo Sports doesn’t get any mechanical updates in the engine department. As a result, it continues to be offered with a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both these engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Unfortunately, the 1.5-litre petrol that is available with an automatic transmission on the regular model won’t be offered with the new Sports variant.

Ford also claims to have re-engineered and retuned the suspension setup of the Figo Sports edition. This is expected to make the suspension a lot more sporty, thus enhancing the car’s dynamics. It will help in enhancing the car’s handling characteristics, especially around high-speed corners. Having driven the regular Figo recently, we just can’t wait to see how Ford has managed to further enhance the dynamics of a car that was already spot on.

Ford Figo Sports edition mileage

As we mentioned before, Ford hasn’t made any changes to the Figo Sports variant. As a result, the mileage figures have also been revised. Hence, the Ford Figo Sports petrol delivers a company claimed fuel economy of 18.16 km/l and the diesel model’s mileage is 25.83 km/l. These are ARAI certified figures that have been tested in laboratory conditions. As a result, practical mileage of Ford Figo Sports will likely be lower than the said figures.

Summary

The Figo is our favourite hatchback under Rs. 10 lakh. And Ford has made it even better with the introduction of the Ford Figo Sports. This new special edition comes with a dual tone colour scheme, black alloy wheels and a new, more menacing looking front grille. It truly looks like a true-blooded hot hatch.
