Yes! You read it right. We are comparing the new Maruti S-Cross facelift to the Tata Nexon. And don’t worry, we haven’t gone insane to compare cars from different segments. We have a solid reason for putting up a Maruti S-Cross vs Tata Nexon comparison!
The Nexon has managed to catch eyes of multiple car buyers in the country, thanks to its contemporary looks, well-responsive engines and loaded feature list. As a result, we have been receiving quite a few requests regarding the Nexon’s comparison with its competitors. And while most requests were to compare the Tata Nexon to direct compact SUV rivals like the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport, we were surprised to see multiple entries for comparing it to the new Maruti S-Cross facelift.
And if you look at it in a broader sense, the comparison is indeed justified. As we will prove in the following detailed comparison, the S-Cross and the Nexon are pretty close to each other in terms of the specifications and features on offer. Thus, the major difference lies in the size – the Nexon is a sub-4 metre compact SUV while the S-Cross is a more than 4-metre crossover. But since both of them are essentially 5 seaters, does this size difference build any serious advantage for the S-Cross and justify the 1 lakh+ price premium it has over the Tata Nexon?
We go through every single detail of the Tata Nexon and Maruti S-Cross to answer just that!
2018 Maruti S-Cross vs Tata Nexon – Price comparison
For comparing prices of the Nexon and the S-Cross, we are taking only the diesel models. The reason behind this lies in the fact that the S-Cross is currently available only with a diesel engine option.
Seeing the below variant-wise price comparison, it is clear that the S-Cross is priced way over the Nexon. The price difference between two cars falls in the range of 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh, which is a huge amount for a car buyer looking at a 10 lakh rupee car. Hence, in the pricing department, the Nexon is the clear winner, undercutting all variants of the Tata Nexon. But can the S-Cross justify its price tag?

Maruti S-Cross vs Tata Nexon dimensions comparison
This is where things get interesting! The Maruti S-Cross is clearly a longer vehicle, which is its biggest justification of the higher price tag. At 4,300 mm, the S-Cross is longer than the Nexon by over 300 mm. This increased length also translates to better wheelbase, as the S-Cross boasts of a 2,600 mm long wheelbase, as compared to the 2,498 mm reading on the Nexon. As a result, the legroom of front and rear seat occupants is a lot more generous in the S-Cross. However, Maruti designers didn’t really manage to carve out a big enough boot for the S-Cross. Hence, the two cars are differentiated by just 3-litres in the boot space department.
Moreover, while the S-Cross is indeed longer, the Nexon beats it in every other dimension. The compact SUV from Tata is 12 mm taller and 26 mm wider than the S-Cross, and also boasts of a 29 mm higher ground clearance. While the Nexon does look a bit strange with such tall dimensions, all this translates to sufficient cabin space. Hence, there is no clear advantage for the S-Cross in the dimensions department as well.
