Jeep India has announced that it will increase prices of the Compass SUV from 1st January 2018. The company has also revealed that it has sold over 10,000 units of the Jeep Compass in India, since its launch in July 2017. Hence, this sales milestone has been reached in just over 4 months. Interestingly, Jeep had earlier revealed to have received 10,000 bookings within a month from its launch.
The highly anticipated and much talked about entry-level SUV in Jeep India’s portfolio, the 2018 Jeep Compass, was launched in India in July last year. As a departure from the company’s earlier pricing strategy, the Compass was priced at a fairly aggressive price tag, ranging from Rs. 14.95 lakh to Rs. 20.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Prices were later increased by up to Rs 72,000, due to GST implementation. Customers have been loving the Compass, primarily due to the value for money package on offer.
However, with all major manufacturers increasing prices from the new year, Jeep India too has decided to follow suit. Hence, the company has announced a hike of around 2-4% on the Compass ranged. It is worth noting that the entry-level Jeep Compass Sport petrol variant won’t receive any price hike. Thus it will continue to be priced at Rs 15.16 lakh.

The Compass is a compact SUV with a seating capacity of five people. It was globally unveiled in Brazil last year. For the Indian market, the Compass will be Jeep’s third product. The first two launches – the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee, haven’t really been able to spur their respective segments. And to be blunt, Jeep doesn’t have anyone else to blame but themselves. There is no doubt about the fact that the Jeep brand has value in Indian customer eyes. However, the exorbitant price tag at which the two cars were launched made them redundant products.
The main reason behind the high price tag of the two SUVs was the fact that both of them were being brought into the country as CBUs (completely built units). This warranted a higher tax slab on the products, thus pushing their sales to a much higher tag.
To curb this situation and to keep aggressive prices, Jeep is manufacturing the Compass locally in India. For this, the American automaker has invested over $280 million in the Ranjangaon production facility of FCA, which is also used to manufacture Fiat cars in the country. Hence, we expect the Compass to boost Jeep’s sales in India.

The Jeep Compass is currently available at prices ranging from Rs 15.16 lakh to Rs 21.37 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). These prices make it a lot more aggressively priced than the Hyundai Tucson, which is its major rival.

Jeep Compass
Jeep Compass is a compact SUV that comes with matured design cues, that are inspired by the Grand Cherokee. It looks a smart design, both from outside and inside. While Jeep’s are known for their rugged performance and durability, the Compass in India will get slightly underpowered engine setups. And at such lucrative prices, the Compass appears to be one of the most VFM products currently on offer.
