The highly-awaited Mahindra XUV300 Automatic variant has been launched in India. The automatic gearbox is only available with the diesel engine. Mahindra is offering the XUV300 diesel automatic in two variants – W8 and W8(O). While the XUV300 AT W8 is priced at Rs. 11.35 lakh, the more premium W8(O) is pegged at Rs. 12.55 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, India.
The new gearbox is essentially a 6-speed unit with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) on top of it. The AMT unit is sourced from Magneti Marelli. This is the same company that supplies AMT gearboxes to all Maruti, Tata and Mahindra vehicles. The said gearbox is mated to a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that is capable of putting out 117 PS and 300 Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile, the petrol engine continues to be offered only with a manual gearbox.

The Mahindra XUV300 Diesel automatic comes in two transmission modes – manual and automatic. As a result, drivers still have the liberty to put the gearbox to manual mode and control gear shifts, without the need to use the clutch pedal, which is anyways absent from the vehicle. Meanwhile, the automatic mode allows the car to take control of the gear shifts, as per the driver’s throttle inputs. Mahindra has also added a creep function to the AMT unit. As a result, drivers can just de-press the brake pedal and the car will start moving forward. This comes as a huge relief in bumper-to-bumper city traffic.
