New-gen 2020 Hyundai Elite i20 spotted in India, Launch next year

The Hyundai Elite i20 will soon receive a new-gen model, which is expected to be launched sometime next year. The 2020 Elite i20 will get some major cosmetic upgrades, a few mechanical alterations, and a dose of new features. A new set of spy shots of the next-gen i20 have surfaced on the Internet. However, the spotted model looks to still be in the prototype stage, far away from a production-ready version.

The updated model of the Hyundai i20 hatchback will be based on the company’s newest design philosophy. We thus expect the design to follow the same language that we have seen on the Venue compact SUV. As a result, the new Elite i20 will likely get a broad hexagonal grille at the front, sleek headlamps assemblies, fared wheel arches, and a floating roof line. We also expect to see dual tone alloys on the higher variants. From the spy shots, the car also appears to be wider than before. On the other hand, we don’t expect Hyundai to increase the length of the Elite i20 as it will then breach the 4 metre mark for excise duty benefits.

On the inside, the Elite i20 is likely to come with a dual tone dashboard, a touchscreen infotainment system, and a host of other convenience features. Safety will be taken care of by standard features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

In the powertrain department, the Elite i20 will continue to come with the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines. However, the Korean carmaker is also expected to add the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol to this lineup. This is the same block that is seen under the Hyundai Venue. However, in the Elite i20, it will produce close to 100 PS of power, rather than the 125 PS it develops under the compact SUV.
