The Renault Kwid has received a dismal 0-star safety rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash test. The model tested was in the Indonesian-spec. However, it was made in India, which makes this news a lot more relevant for our domestic market as well.
The tested model of the Renault Kwid was equipped with a driver side airbag, which is currently optional in the top end variant of the India-spec model. It lacked any emergency assistance systems like anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), etc. Due to these missing features, the Kwid got no points in the safety assists technology (SAT) department.
In the adult occupancy protection (AOP) test, the Kwid earned 10.12 points, out of a maximum of 36. Chest and head protection for both front seat occupants (driver and passenger) were found to be poor, while the car’s structure too was seen to be unstable under stress.

In the child occupant protection (COP) test, the little Renault hatchback fetched 14.56 points, out of a maximum of 49 points. It was awarded 8 points for the protection provided to a rearward facing 18-month old child, while a forward facing 3-year old child dummy was exposed to stress levels that gave the Kwid a score of 10.55 points.
The ASEAN NCAP safety crash tests give 50% weight to adult occupancy protection (AOP) tests, while safety assist technology (SAT) and child occupant protection (COP) get 25% weight each.
