Force Motors, a prominent commercial vehicle manufacturer in India, is expanding its product lineup with a focus on passenger vehicles. Following the success of the Gurkha 3-Door model, the company is poised to introduce the 5-Door variant. Furthermore, it is venturing into the pickup truck segment with notable developments, as evidenced by recent sightings of test mules.
Recently, automotive enthusiast Swapnil S captured images of a Force Gurkha Pickup undergoing testing on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. The most striking feature of this test mule is the inclusion of a roll cage. This roll cage spans from the bonnet area, seamlessly integrating into the vehicle's pillars along the roofline, and extending to the load bed area. Additionally, a soft top covering the load bed was observed, consistent with previous prototypes. Notably, a towing hook was spotted at the rear, a feature absent in earlier models.
The presence of a roll cage immediately raises speculation about potential military applications. Moreover, the inclusion of a towing hook suggests utility beyond standard civilian use. The test mule also boasts 18-inch alloy wheels, similar to those anticipated on the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-Door model, and a snorkel, a common feature among Gurkha Pickup prototypes.
Upon launch, the Force Gurkha Pickup is expected to be equipped with a 2.6L FM CR diesel engine generating 95 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Furthermore, it will feature a standard 4X4 transfer case and front and rear mechanically lockable differentials. Design elements such as G-Class inspired round headlights and fender-mounted LED indicators contribute to its distinct appearance.
Considering Force Motors' history of exploring specialized vehicle applications, the roll cage addition suggests potential for various special-purpose vehicles. Previous endeavors include attempts to secure contracts with the Indian Military for personnel carriers and the development of jungle expedition vehicles, exemplified by the Tadoba Tiger Reserve project based on the Force Cruiser MUV.
Speculation arises regarding the intended purpose of the roll cage, with possibilities ranging from cinematography applications, inspired by similar adaptations seen on other vehicles, to a mere aesthetic enhancement aimed at bolstering the vehicle's rugged appeal.
In conclusion, the inclusion of a roll cage in the testing phase of the Force Gurkha Pickup hints at the company's exploration of diverse market segments and potential for specialized applications beyond traditional civilian use.
