Tata Motors will be taking the veils off its first ever all-electric SUV – the Nexon EV on December 17, 2019. The event will take place in Mumbai and will mark the global reveal of the Tata electric SUV. It is worth noting that this will just be an unveil event, with the official launch and price revelation scheduled for sometime later in 2020.
Tata has been working on the Nexon Electric for quite some time now. It has already been spotted testing across the country multiple times. Tata has itself released a few teaser images and videos that show the Electric SUV being tested in challenging terrain. These spy shots suggest that the Nexon Electric will be based on the current model of the compact SUV. However, a few media reports suggest that the model that will be available for purchase through Tata dealerships will be based on the upcoming 2020 Tata Nexon facelift.
With the facelift, the new Nexon is expected to get a sleeker front end, with redesigned headlights, grille and bumper. The overall silhouette of the compact SUV is expected to remain unchanged. It will also come with new alloy wheels and slightly tweaked rear profile.
Details about the powertrain of the Tata Nexon Electric are still scarce. However, it is expected to offer a range of around 300 km on a single charge. Sadly though, with an expected price range of around Rs. 15 lakh, the Nexon Electric will sure command a premium over its regular fossil fuel powered iteration.
The Tata Nexon Electric isn’t the only upcoming Electric SUV in India. Mahindra too is working on the XUV300 Electric, which will be launched in the second half of 2020.
